Welcome To Prompted 2 Write

I have always loved writing and taught it in my classes, no matter the grade. After retirement, I published several books and began blogging. I love it, but there are days when I can't think of anything to write. When I taught writing to children, I always gave them a writing prompt, making it easier for them. I hope to post writing prompts for all ages. This site will be helpful to homeschoolers as well a classroom teachers. It is for anyone who loves writing or anyone who is required to write. Please let me see some of your writing.

Prompted2Write--My Crazy Grandmother

My mother-in-law provided us with many laughs in her later years.  Here is just one example.  I was driving her to the doctor and she started the conversation:
Her: "My ears are stopped up."
Me: "I'm sorry.  What do we need to do about it?"
Her:  " I don't know.  Brad's ears were stopped up."
Me:  "Oh really?"
Her:  "Oh yeah, he had to call Fedex out to clean them."
Me:  "I did not know that Fedex offered that service."
Her:  "Oh yeah, they'll come if you call them."
I figured out she was trying to say he called the medics.  There were many more times, but some I can't write on a family friendly blog.  The funny part was that she didn't even know she had something inappropriate.  Please tell me your story.

LE:  My grandmother does the craziest things.  Last week she went on in her yard and...
UE:  If you knew some of the things my grandmother does, you'd laugh your head off.  One time my grandfather found her ...
MS:  My grandmother used to be fairly normal.  Then one day something happened and she has never been the same.  Here's the story..
HS:  I love my grandmother--except when she tries to use teenage slang to tell me something.  She can't keep the words straight and uses them all wrong.  She called my cell phone and tried to tell me about her shopping trip.  Here's what she said..
A:  Raising parents is much harder than raising kids.  At least the kids do somewhat normal things.  My parents do the dumbest things and then I have to take care of it.  Their latest escapade is...

Surprise Encounter

I hope you have fun with this story.  Remember, my goal is to help you stretch your imagination.

View detailsLE:  I was playing in my yard when I heard a loud thump behind me.  I turned around and saw...

UE:  My family heard a loud thump in the backyard.  My mother went outside to see what it was.  "Oh my gosh."  We heard her scream.  Running to the door, we saw...

MS:  My dad and I were plowing the garden.  Suddenly the tiller hit something hard and stopped.  My dad tried to see what it hit, be couldn't move the dirt.  I went to the shed and got a shovel.  You will never believe what we dug up.

HS: Jeremy always parked his car in the backyard.  That way he didn't park behind one of his parents.  His habit of driving fast, whipping around the back corner of the house, and stopping quickly was the talk of the neighbor.  "You just wait.  One day he will come around that corner and find something he wasn't expecting".  The neighbors would say.  That day came yesterday.  He drove in the driveway, avoided the broken piece of concrete, came around the back of the house, and crashed into...

A:  We received a phone call from one of our dear friends, Albert.  "You have to come over here.  Something has landed in my backyard and I need you."  Now Albert is known to stretch the truth, especially if he has been drinking.  "Describe it to me."  I told him.  This was his description.

Dr. Seuss Writing

Dr. Seuss Writing

Product DetailsWell, could an imagination get any wilder than Dr. Seuss'?  He wrote about things we couldn't even dream about.  He was truly a writer that let his mind go where it wanted.  Out of that wondering mind came some great stories.  One of my favorites is called And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry StreetIn the story, a little boy with an imagination as big as Dr. Seuss, attempted to embellish the story of a plane old horse and wagon.  With every passing page, the boy added to his story.  Soon the old horse and wagon were an entire team of horses pulling a complete band along with a number of other things.  The boy did all this because he wanted to tell his dad what he saw on the way home from school.

Today let's be like Dr. Seuss.  Just let your mind run wild and see what you can write.  It doesn't have to make sense.  Come on--Stretch that imagination.

LE:  Please read And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street before giving the assignment.
A bird lives in a tree outside my window.  Today as I watched him try to fly he turned into....

UE:  I was sitting in my bedroom, minding my own business when I heard a tremendous crash outside.  I ran to the window and saw.......

MS:  My dad told me I needed to start watching the news.  He said that if I couldn't tell him what the news reported tonight, I can't go to my friend's house this weekend.  So I watched the news.  It was boring.  I'll jazz it up for him.  Today in Peru...

HS:  Okay, I'll admit it. I have had a crush on _______ for a long time.  Today he/she spoke to me.  I could see him/her coming across the room.  The closer he/she got, the more gorgeous he/she became.  She/He looked like a movie star by the time he/she got to me.  And then it happened.  He/she opened her/his mouth and said...

A:  You will not believe what happened at work today.  My boss was angry because an order got messed up.  He started yelling and then his face....
